THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE

physiotherapy education self-management

SELF MANAGEMENT

Myofascial release involves various hands-on techniques for normalizing muscle tone
& tissue sensitivity, eliminating muscle knots, and releasing stiff fascia.
This helps to optimize your stretching and strengthening abilities.

Therapeutic exercise is the secret to total healing of a movement disorder. Without maintaining a home exercise program, the problem can come back. Therapeutic exercise, unlike regular exercise & physical activity, is targeted for your specific condition.

Self-management is the other secret weapon. The physiotherapist will teach you the tricks of the trade to becoming pain-free for life, such as postural education, sleeping positions, and self-release techniques. Once you are in the maintenance stage, it is recommended you arrange a maintenance schedule to make sure you are still on track!

PELVIC FLOOR HEALTH

WHAT IS PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOTHERAPY?

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy is not much different than a regular physiotherapy session.
Just like a regular session, the Physiotherapist will conduct a series of orthopaedic tests to assess movement. Upon your consent, an internal exam may be conducted in conjunction
to assess the muscle tone & strength of your pelvic floor muscles.

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOTHERAPY?

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy is beneficial for both women & men. Based on scientific evidence,
it can be used as a standalone treatment for pre-, peri-, and post-natal care, pelvic pains, urinary incontinence, painful intercourse, and post-surgical testicular cancer care.

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF THE PELVIC FLOOR?

The pelvic floor is a series of muscles and ligaments that form a sling to support the pelvic organs. It is involved in voiding of the bladder and defecation. It plays a role in sexual intercourse and pregnancy. And it is the floor of the "inner core" muscles for pelvic stability.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOTHERAPY SESSION?

Dress comfortably as you would for a regular physiotherapy session. The internal exam requires de- from the waist down. If you are currently menstruating, the internal exam can still be performed. And don't overthink it! The Physio will guide you step-by-step!
